a smaller DOF would have been nice, the background is distracting from the great color on the birds..

I agree with max3k about the DOF. You could desaturate the backgrounds a little in your image-editing program and this would help. But the colors on the birds are wonderful. The close-up of #1 is nice.

The colors are amazing! I'd do the same DOF for the second on the third and fourth, but great shots of the birds nevertheless.
