I was tinkering with my camera last night and I got an error.. It said to press the shutter release button again. I would press the shutter release and all it would do it click and nothing happened. I tried shutting the camera off, but it wouldn't go away. The manual said to take to a Nikon dealer, so I did and I got a brand new one! I saved another $50 bucks because the rebate went up!

Has anyone with a Nikon experienced this error?? Do you know what causes it?

Was it an 'err' error code?

A new D7000 owner just had that one ,and the memory card was not full seated.

Most error codes are generated by user error, but consumer electronics are mass-produced so some errors are equipment failures.

That D5100 will get sent back to Nikon and Nikon will check it out. If nothing was really wrong or was a simple repair they will re-calibrate and clean the camera and sell it again as refurbished.

If it was a major fault not worth repairing they will likely just scrap the camera.

Yes, and there was a error message on the LCD. I did take out the memory card and put it back in and I still had the error.

What was the error code ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

The error message was -------> Press the shutter release button again.....I did and nothing happened!

It was flashing in red letters on the LCD!

I have a D60 and just got the same error "press shutter release again". Anyone know if it can be fixed? Or should I start shopping for that upgrade I've had my eye on now. :)

I was using my 50 1.4.. still haven't fixed to D60, but did make the upgrade to the 7000.
