Picked this book up at the library on Monday and fell in love.
Backdrops and Backgrounds: A Portrait Photographer's Guide: Ryan Klos: 9781608955367: Amazon.com: Books
To my dismay I also grabbed several other books, and none of them have proven to be quite as useful as this one.
Some were too vague, only showing images and not giving any pointers as for how to plot an image. Or what the thought processes were behind them.
Others were quite wordy but all the works by the photographer who wrote the book were less then impressive: out of focus, cropped badly, shot at a terrible, unfortunate and unflattering angle, by a man who seems to have a fixation with the female form but a lack of familiarity with capturing it in a skillful and tasteful way, the only shots that were even moderately appealing seemed to be accidentally so.

Not sure if anyone else has looked into this one. I don't recommend it.
Then there was the one about painting with light which was beyond my Photographic Comprehension for the time being. Maybe something to consider later though.

I hadn't realized so much went into that type of photography. Kudos to those of you who have the time and patience to plan and execute that kind of work though.
At any rate, back to the topic of the book I did like. It has left me inspired.
So, I am currently working on designing a little set for shooting images of the youngest kid this weekend. Really don't know how it will work out but if nothing else it will be an experience.
