People on this forum are too into black and white. This photo in particular shouldn't be in B&W.

Wow, I really like this! The edges at the leaves seem to really pop. Then there's a little surprise in the center with the water drop. Normally I wouldn't advocate for a "bullseye", but I think it works here. The curls in the leaves seem to get smaller toward the center, which for me make a kind of fractal effect. It's actually almost other-worldly. This is a very pleasing image to look at.

This works in B&W because without the color one is forced to focus on line, shape and lighting, all of which are interesting here. The only problem I have with it is that I dislike a lot of out-of-focus foreground. I've observed that many others are less bothered by this than I am, so take it with a grain of salt. Personally, I'd have taken it from a little higher up and angled the camera to reduce the amount of foreground leaves in the frame. (or removed those leaves)

Too out of focus, whether it's foreground or background, is the other thing I see too much of. I like wider depths of field.

I'm with you on the shallow DOF being a negative to a degree. As shot, color might have helped it, but as a B&W it could use greater DOF.
I also feel like the water drop is lost due to the missed focus as well as the competition with the equally light leaf fringes. Some selective sharpening as well as some dodging and burning might make for a more compelling shot.

Not bad though overall.
