As the title says, this was my first real try with an insect. Luckily this fella held still for quite awhile before getting bored with me. It would help if I had a true Macro lens, but that will be awhile.

this is an extremely good first attempt! what kind of lighting was used on the first? two and three i may suggest a great DOF but other then that these are beatiful.

Thanks for the responses. All of these were with an SB-600 + Stofen Diffuser off camera. The different lightings between them comes from the angle and placement of the flash.
