Lens Guide.

I am extremely new to the photography scene. I am still trying to comprehend all of the lingo, and terms. However, I want to look into new lenses for my Kodak P880. However, in order to do this, I was wondering if there was a guide or chart which showed which lenses were good for which projects, which speeds, etc. were available. Is this available anywhere? Also, need lenses that have a 55 mm thread, since I will be using a lens adaptor, is this possible?
