Hi all,

lots of questions come in about various different lenses. Would a thread like this enable people to see how these lenses render photos as opposed to 2 people arguing that their macro is better for example. Maybe as a rule of entering a photo the person has to mention camera body used. Not sure- any opinions

But that would cut down on our lovely dialogue!
It might work, but I'm a firm believer in controlled experiments. I feel the comparisons could be flawed due to the number of variables: subject matter, camera bodies, post processing, settings, lighting, and photographer.

You can always start a "theme" for a specific lens in the themes gallery.

snowbear does raise important points that varying conditions will drastically affect the results so it won't be a scientific thread, but it could be a good inspiration for those with the lens to see what it can do at its best.

Thanks- would it be possible for me to start a thread that allowed other threads to be opened inside, example I open a lens thread, inside I open a specific lens, but other could open seperate lens threads. Sorry if my explanation is overly complicated

Well it does make a certain amount of sense, but it pretty much kills the whole Thunderdome flair with which we do things now.. "Two lenses enter, on lens leaves".

The only way you could do that is if you:

1) Open up a series of threads, one for each lens, and then have a single thread that links to them - however the Themes section already has an archive thread like that in the sticky at the top.

2) Open up a single thread and then have a single post within that thread for each lens and then put hyperlinks into the opening post linking directly to the specific post for the lens (this, however, is only good if you're the only one posting the pictures, since other people can't edit in their photos into the single post for the lens).

The other approach is you could make a series of threads for lenses in the specific equipment section for the lens.

The biggest problem is quantity - there are lots of lenses.

So really our current method of fighting it out in a pit does have it's advantages then.. woohoo! Lol

I think the OP wants to compare lenses, so some would now post something from a similar focal length; say your 70-300/2.8.

BTW, does that lens really go to 3 meters (3000mm)?
