I haven't shot lightning in a couple of years!!! The other night there was a storm maybe 12 miles north of my location, and I was under clear, starry skies. I drove up to a park on the north edge of the town, against the bay, and got a wonderful view of this thunderstorm in the distance. I could even see stars above the clouds, which show in some of the pictures. I never heard any thunder from this, either!
This storm was constantly flashing, with lightning every 5 to ten seconds. I set the intervalometer to take an 8-second exposure every ten seconds, shot 100 frames, and had maybe 15 black frames!

On #5, look at the very top right of the cloud, and see if you see the smiling old man!
It's also very interesting (to me, anyway ) to see in these how much lightning is above the base of the cloud. Those people in this storm see that little bit between the cloud and the ground, and that's big enough from their vantage point, but just look how small a piece that is of those actual strikes!
