On the first one I'd of rather seen nothing but the sky. The stars and everything are so awesome that the bottom part of the picture is just a distraction to me. Hopefully you took some of just the sky.

Unfortunately, that was a happy accident. As it wasn't very visible to the naked eye, I couldn't see I had that shot until I got home and started post processing. I was just taking some higher ISO shots to either setup or use as a foreground for a star trails stack, and it came out like that. I'll definitely be shooting more from there.
I would love to have that same accident. I now have the urge to do some more night shots to try and capture that myself. Also have been putting off doing some star trails but the moon has been too bright and it's been stormy lately. I like that star trails shot.
Unfortunately, I have to travel to get a good star trails shot with Polaris in it, as I am on the southern side of an island. There is just way too much light pollution to the North. I'm going to try and get some 4 hour star trail shots soon, new tripod just got here and should reduce the shaking from wind and such. I was shooting those pics on a low end Sony tripod that shook anytime a breeze blew.
