Cool bird and nice shot. It's the first I've seen or heard of one.

It is pretty similar to the Plieated Woodpecker that we had back in NY, it even has a similar call, but this was another new-to-me bird. I've been seeing it in a hole in a nearby tree lately and I am hoping he will attract a mate and I get to see babies!
The only other woodpeckers I have seen here are the Golden Fronted which is very similar to the Red-Bellied.
