I guess I'm past my first 24 hours, rating went down and it fell down a bit, it will be neat to see how day 2 goes, I think each like/fav/comment carries less weight on the pulse today.

Woot! Wish I'd seen it yesterday when a like would have helped more, but I haven't been on 500px much lately. I really need to get on there and post a few recent shots, but I find it taxing. Mostly because once I post a photo, then I have start watching to see whether it "catches on" and starts getting likes and then whether it hits Upcoming, and then whether it hits Popular and then how far up it goes on the Popular pages...it just wears me out!

Maybe if I wasn't such a "Like" wh*re, I could just post the durn picture and move on. :lmao:

I've had several hit Popular, but never thought to look at where it was in its respective category. Cr*p. Now I *AM* gonna have to post another picture there. :lol:

Yep pretty much, when you upload it goes into "Fresh" and the more likes/fav's/comments it gets it moves up the ranks, it's pretty neat to watch! Let me know when you are uploading so I don't miss it!

We should start a thread: "Your highest rated 500px photos."
My highest so far was 97.8, but I won't post it here because THIS thread is all about Pixel's awesomeness!!

(And I'm not gonna start a new thread because: a) I'm lazy, and b) I'm about to head off to the fair and see if any of my photos got a ribbon.

You'll get there--Personally, I find my photo has a better chance of a high rating if I only post one at a time. Whenever I post two or three at once, it tends to spread the "likes" out too much and none of the photos do quite as well.

Funny thing...I have NEVER had a photo get explored on flickr. It kinda ticks me off when I think about it too much. :lmao:
I really have NO idea how to get a photo "explored."
What I really like about 500px is that you have an idea from the get-go of whether the photo has a chance of becoming Popular or not, because you can watch the "rating" go up--the number of likes it gets in the first several hours, maybe even the first 24 are what really count and help it move up. After that, the rating drops pretty fast--so if the photo doesn't make it to Upcoming or Popular the first day, it likely never will.

I predict Mish will have a photo become Popular within the first three that she posts.

Congrats!

500px it's very important to have an eye-catching thumbnail. It helps to drive traffic to the photo from other areas too, like 500px groups and such.

The new rating system is much better. It really has eliminated most vote-gaming. Once in a while a very bad image will make the front page and stay there for a while, but overall, the new rating system is more fair to everyone.
