Nice composition!!!
Pity about the bird being a bit dark against the sky as background. Fill-flash might have done the trick (maybe?) ... though I don't know, of course, how far away you were from this bird and if your on-camera flash would have reached? But he'd then maybe also have got a catchlight in his eye?

This was shot at 55mm, so I was quite close (~1.5m). So a fill flash would lighten up the bird. It might have also driven it off, so I wouldn't get those 45 shots of it .

Hmmmm ..... 45 mediocre shots vs. 1 spectacular shot.... I'd have tried for the flash. Pretty bird tho.
