Not enough concentration on the subject ... the background gets in the way.

One piece of advise to newbies ... remind yourself to avoid tunnel vision. Many photographers get locked onto one aspect of the scene, and forget that there are other things in the viewfinder ... and those other things are not contributing to the entire picture.

Maybe try a different angle to lose most of the sky and trees in the background which is dominating a good half the frame and makes the locks kinda get lost here.

Yea that vision tunnel is a killer.Its amazing what you see and then don't see.
