Logo and (simple) Design -Help

My sis and I are on a small family project...
We are planning to create a logo for a coffee shop, this is for promotional use only the design may or
may not be used as an official logo. We asked someone before to create something like this but we were disappointed with the results, :er: we want something that we can edit and edit every now and then.

Can you suggest any online site, or (free) software?
Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.
