It's got a very large drop shadow around it as well that looks tacky. Other than that, it's a tree. You're right.

If it were lonely, the tree should "speak" loneliness. To me, it doesn't. If it were dead, or broken in half, maybe it would have conveyed what the title described. Just my observations.

You need a foundation, an anchor for the viewer (me) to envision the scene in total. The slight tilt off vertical may be fine..... if a horizon was defined. It doesn't require much often times, but it should be there.

ehhh, it's just a tree in the neighborhood, the horizon is ugly with homes and streets lined with garbage cans and parked cars
