looking for a good friend, a canon lens !

I'm doing some search for a canon ef 50mm f/1.2L even if it's a used clean one; you know the new ones are quite costly (at least for me! So I thought to go for a canon FD 55mm f/1.2 with an fd/eos adaptor which all together may cost half the ef model price.
Any suggestion or idea ?

Why not a 50mm 1.4?

why not the $100 1.8? I have a hard time seeing a need for anything faster considering how shallow the DOF is.

I believe the problem you're going to run into is that FD-to-EOS adapters either have a glass element (which degrades quality and loses light -- like a stop or so) or no glass (which means you can't focus at infinity). All in all, you'd probably be way better off just getting the 50mm f/1.4 EF lens and be done with it.
