Maleficent (Spoilers probably)

Maleficent was such a disappointment. And what sucks is that it had soooooo much potential. The entire premise is just dripping with character complexity and intrigue.

However, instead of being a cohesive, well-told reimagining of Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent is basically a high-budget fanfiction adaptation barely held together by Angelina Jolie's (great) acting.

Disney should be ashamed that it allowed such a thorough butchering of its classic tale.

That's the thing. I don't know. There are darker, grittier moments followed by random slapstick and whimsy. That's one of my huge criticisms of the film. It doesn't know what it wants to be.

I would say that it's geared toward older audiences though. It's too complex and slightly too scary for young kids, although they would probably enjoy some of the sequences.

The Oz movie was a little disappointing, too.
