Metadata Gobboldygook

Is there some reference or website that explains what all the gobboldygook that's contained in the metadata means?

I can understand much of it, and obviously things like shutter speed, aperture, ISO, etc. are pretty self-explanatory. Even things like Flash Compulsory Did Not Fire lend themselves to common sense interpretations.

But some of the lines, like Original Subsecond Time, Unknown tag Tagnum 0x8830 = data ===> 2 or User Comment Hex (followed by a bunch of multiplication problems) make absolutely no sense.

There's obviously a reason for this stuff to be recorded. I'd just like to know what it means.

I have no idea if you'll find a list and explanation of all the EXIF fields, other than the basic ones. If you're desperate enough, you can always take a look into the full EXIF specification, but that seems like a lot of stuff to get through.

A lot of the metadata is proprietary camera maker information and you won't find anything online to decode it.
