Took a friend out yesterday and just tried different shots. Opinions and/or critiques on this one?

As far as the picture is concerned, there are harsh shadows on your subjects face.

I ended up deciding not to go. Makes no sense to blow 46k on something you can self-learn.

As far as the photo, yeah, it was my exposure. I really liked the composition of the shot, but my shutter speed was too fast and my aperture hole wasn't open enough to compensate, so I ended up with a under-exposed image that I tried really hard to save, to some degree. lol.

Wow, given your annoyingly stubborn stance here I thought saving you was a lost cause.

Nah, that was just for fun. Anyway, back to the critiquing.

I kinda like the shadows. On my screen, you can still see his face, but the shadows add something, at least for me. Idk. I think it's a combination of the shadows and the coloring that make it work for me.

What do you think it takes away from?

I suspect that had you exposed his face correctly you would have blown (or come close to blowing) the scene behind him. I don't have a problem with the deep shadow on his face, I like the feel it gives to the image and I can see (at least on this monitor) enough detail to make me happy. However, the large amount of bright scene behind him draws the eye and contradicts the mood imparted by the shadow. So overall no, I'm afraid the shot doesn't really work for me.
