I like the lighting and color toning, but on my display it seems a bit dark, causing his chin to disappear into his neck. I personally feel like the vignette is a bit extreme, but a smoother gradient in it's blending around his face might give it better harmony throughout the image. Otherwise great shot; it portrays him nicely and I like the emotiveness of it, and I feel that the shallow depth of field makes it reminiscent of a medium-format portrait.

Wow I'm in awe. I bet when printed there is a LOT of detail in this image that just isn't visible on my screen. Very nice.

Superb portrait! I have a tendancy to gravitate towards the darker tones anyway but I really like how you've got the exposure nailed for the face with the details in his clothing abruptly and sharply fading to black with just a hint of detail.

thanks for the comments guys. I'll be honest, I've been working on this image for about a week, so once it was 'finished' I was keen to share. Perhaps a little too hasty when posting it.

A little more time in the digital darkroom I think!

Following the useful comments I have tweaked the image, albeit very slightly as I wanted to retain the dark aesthetic.

I really like where it's going. My eye is still drawn to the edge of the vignette though. I just personally wish it blended in with a smoother gradient rather than making a line around him.
