mirror

I have an older minolta X-370n that i use as my backup 35mm camera. recently when i took it out of the bag i couldnt see out of the viewfinder so i took off the lense to check it out. The mirror, idk what the term would be for it, is flipped up rather than diagonal like normal, with the lever pushed it will move freely but it goes right back to the up position, so I cannot take any pictures with it now, any ideas?

Are your batteries dead?

If they're ok and the contacts are clean then search for "minolta X-370n stuck mirror"

It sounds like the mirror is locked up. Check to see if your camera has a 'mirror lock up' function and if that is enabled.

Take out any batteries and see what that does.

It's possible that something is missing or out of place...a spring or a lever etc. I'd suggest taking it into a repair/used camera store and letting some old guy have a look at it.

If it's an old camera try simply setting it to manual. My FE for instance managed to permanently lock the mirror up when I somehow managed to depress the shutter with the lenscap on.
