Thoughts on my first real attempt at a night shot on a cloudy night?

IMO, you are lacking a foundation, an anchor if you will. Shooting with half the tree missing is quite obvious. Shooting the moon with earth-bound foreground is a good choice. A cloudy night is different from an overcast night. The clouds can certainly play as a secondary subject, but it is a matter of timing. Too little can seem as boring and too much can crush the attempt. Your attempt is commendable. Quality photos of such a scene are difficult to pull off, but still we try.

Keep at it, eventually you will capture something memorable.
