Motocross - Another Impromptu Sports Shoot

So today me and the wife headed out to my new favorite location for wildlife. Needless to say, it turns out there is a motocross track about one hundred yards or so behind the trail network I like to walk. The noise drove all the animals into hiding, but there was still plenty of entertaining opportunities to work the camera :mrgreen: First attempt at motorsports of any kind, and this outing was my first attempt at panning as well.

Using a shutter speed that stops the rider but leaves the tires and spokes blurred is the tricky part.
You got it in some, but not in others.

Blurred tires and spokes add to the sense of speed better than stopped tires ans spokes do.

Some are nice shots, some look like the exposure could have been better and/or you had harsh light that time of day. I like #163 because the dirt flying gives a real feel for the event. That last one is real nice.

I'd think about your vantage points and backgrounds, that place had a lot of stuff around to clutter up your photos; but one like #138 has a nice clean background and brings the viewer to the rider much better, really showcases him. Maybe take a look at ones like #88, that would be better I think with a little cropping to get rid of the tall tower and the edge of the yellow barrier, would make for a cleaner composition. You seem to be seeing shots and getting the action nicely.


And this is getting OT but geez Flickr is getting terrible! There was a picture that was really blurry of some cheerleaders, then some dude, and I was like - what the ?? They were too crummy to be your photos and I realized they're ads (and really badly done ones). Starting noticing it's like every 5th picture, yowza.
