Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
I tried updating OS X 10.6.4 or 10.6.5(forget which was installed) to 10.6.6 and it screwed up the OS. What I thought I was doing when I was making a disk image with Disk Utility was actually creating a partition image (even though it says disk image), so now I have a drive with one partition of the OS and missing "GUID_partition_scheme" and "EFI" partitions so it won't boot.

I'm taking this time off from photography to get **** working right. Hopefully it'll be up and running this week. I have things to do.

This makes me feel like one of you nooblets.

So in closing, don't trust Apple.

So then I guess your Apple isn't Idiot proof.

Hope you get it up and running again soon! I love my Mac, would be lost without it!

The OP's screen name kind of made me chuckle with this thread. :D

Serves you right for running the OS on a PC. :D

I hope you get it fixed up and don't lose anything too important.

The importance of having a good backup system is imparitive. None of my image files or music files ever touch my computer's harddrive and my movie files only do so that they can be ripped and transfered to my server.

My programs for OS X generally get transfered to the server as well as it's fairly easy to just copy DMG files rather than to deal with CDs and DVDs, so nothing is going to be lost. It's just a friggin pain to get the video card running.

But I'm running everything on a computer that cost me $1700 to build and that's with more than a quarter of the cost in the video card. I was looking at Mac Pros today and they want $2500 for a quad core Xeon.

Hackintosh systems are great for pure specs, but if you're ever going to upgrade the OS, that's where you're going to run into serious issues.

You should really wait until the hackintosh community has posted exact step-by-steps before upgrading any hackintosh PC to any Mac OS system update. You can run into driver/OS issues that can make your computer inoperable.

Just saying. Good luck and as you mentioned, keeping good backups in the key. But unfortunately, that's one of the major headaches that comes with a hackintiosh system.

Mac can be, and most of the time, is a PC
PERSONAL COMPUTER

But in general venacular, PC usually references a wintel box. Can you grab me some Kleenex while I make a Xerox of this Photo Shopped file?

I bought a 500GB HDD just for a drive clone so that if the update screwed anything up, I would have a backup. But Disk Utility spreads mean lies.

Use SuperDuper to clone the drive before any OS update and you'll be fine.
If the thing burps during an OS update, just restore and you're good.
