I like the second one, but I would like a slightly wider crop.

These photos must have some sentimental value as well?

I like these candids. If you have a chance to try #1 again, frame in portrait, and get the camera down low enough to capture more of the child's face. (Yes, I know shooting candids is not something that is easily repeatable.)

That's the first thing I've seen or heard of it too. I find it interesting that this is something that hasn't been discussed on this forum.
