my first macro shots. a moth

here are a few of my first pictures with my new macro lens (canon EF-S macro 60mm). there are some spots where there is blur or softness.like in picture #2 the head is blurry but the tail is sharp. i manually focused and it was kind of hard keeping the sharpness and staying focused, maybe because my body was moving back and forth because i was in an awkward position. now i know how sensitive the focus is on a macro. i guess next time i need a tripod. its a moth by the way. let me know what you think.

I *love* that third shot. REally awesome! If I didn't know it was a moth (and I'd rather it that way) it looks like a cool abstract design. I'd love to see how it would look painted.. or on canvas. Thatd be spectacular.

thank you. i like the third picture too, but wish it was a little bit more sharp. its because if you focus and then move just a little little bit back or forth, it gets unfocused. so ill try again with a tripod.

I wonder what your apature was for these shots - you appear to have a very fine infocus section. I would try boosting apature to f16 and try from there - f8-16 is a good general area that I am working with macro in at the moment.
Well done doing macro hand held - noe off ye go to get a good tripod and head (also lookout for and get a focusing rail as well - that will help solve the problem of moving back and forwards for you)

You couldn't have had it at f/32... that would have made everything sharp, and most likely blurry as you didn't have a tripod. F/3.5, maybe?

Thanks a lot. Yea I dunno what I shot it at. I'll have to find another bug and try again
