C&C appreciated....

Setup:
- Canon 50D with Canon EFs 17-85 f/4~5.6 IS USM (@85mm)
- Black seamless paper backdrop
- 2X 400 watt-second mono-lights (main - over my left shoulder, fill - behind/left of subject)

I'm new here, so pardon my ignorance.

It would help me to understand if this image is part of a series, a theme, if you are testing out new equipment, etc.

The image, by itself, looks to "put on." Staged.

Good things: catchlight in eyes, clarity.

I just had an idea for what might be interesting if you wanted to try again. The expression is the subject here, but the lighting is doing nothing for it. If you had hard light on one side, casting hard shadows on the other half of the face, this could be pretty creepy, especially if cropped close.

I think some context would help. What was your direction for the photo? You seem to have achieved decent lighting, but as stated not sure if it compliments the subject. Also I don't think this photo is the greatest candidate for black and white and wondering why you chose that route?

It was just a random shot of a friend ... She was trying to express frustration and anger. It was not planned or part of a theme.... Spontaneous.

Well I don't know much about portraits, but to me this looks well shot. I like the B&W, to me it looks well lit and good exposure but others who are more experienced may see something I'm missing. I like the premise but I'm a bit lukewarm about the composition. I think whats bugging me is it lacks context, ok I get she's frustrated, maybe even mad but I'm not sure at what and I don't think she looks mad enough to pull the solo subject off. Mibbies just mad in the way that the kids have left muddy footprints in the carpet again and I told them before......

Or mibbies its the pringles sweatshirt....
