I’m new so forgive a stupid question. Why such a fast shutter speed?

The lens is a new to me acquisition, so I was anxious to test out it's performance wide open, plus I was looking for the effect that big apertures bring. Camera was set to aperture priority because of changing light. Then exposure compensation was dialed down to protect the flower highlights. Overall I shot about a full stop under, then brought back up in post to get a little richer color. So to answer your question, the camera chose the shutter speed based on the other parameters I entered. I could have easily dropped the ISO which would have brought the shutter speed down more, but given the extremely thin DOF, and the fact that I was hand holding, I preferred that it stay high to prevent any motion blur.
