Need some help ink stamping these photos...

I'm trying to edit these photos and give them a black metal feel... The only issue is the lighting in the background which causes the ink stamp to block out most of the people. I want to recolor it just black and white so people can focus more on the faces rather than the background. Possibly something like this:
