PS- I find the framing a little awkward on this. The bloom is leading the eye out of the frame.

Kind of both. I was close to my grandparents and they operated a farm and greenhouse. I learned to draw by sketching her flowers. So I took the same approach in photography. So probably more to practice to be honest. I used this genre to build up my knowledge on using the camera. I suppose I will gradually move away from it as I am starting to discover a style but really haven't posted but one or two of the direction. I am moving into a direction of eliminating the image or better said, rendering it in simple or minimal form. I think the dark room is an important piece. However, gaining the control digitally is where I am at.

In drawing and painting, making the image and then removing it was the path I ended up on.

I should add it was suggested here as an approach and I just interpreted it in the same manner I took with drawing and painting, why reinvent the wheel?

Got it. I think you are starting to expose for the final image. (In film this was a necessity as film isn't as plastic as digital.) I think you're realizing that the "camera recommended exposure" isn't necessarily the optimum exposure for your vision of the final image. You are moving up the learning curve. While you most likely can achieve your vision of the final image with photoshop and any decently exposed file ... that won't make you a better photographer. The ability to expose for the final image will.

PS- There is nothing new under the Sun.

I agree, I didn't frame it well in the camera. I liked the image, color, and depth of field. Cropped it best I could. I may revisit a portrait crop later tonight.
