Hi. I want to start using my canon D600 for video shooting also. I need a lens advise. Im searching for a lens I can use when I dont want to be to far away from what Im filming. For example when I do film diary on my tent trips I would like to be able to handhold my D600 and still be able to film myself talking. With my standard canon 18-55 lens that came with my D600 I cant do that.

Am I doing something wrong or do I need a different lens?? What type of lens should I be looking for? I dont if its a canon lens or not as long as it works with my camera :-)

Thanks.

Is 18mm not wide enough? That's...pretty wide in my experience...lol

Are you referring to the Canon T3i, aka, the 600D? Because Nikon makes a D600. Yes, very confusion, isn't it?

Anyways, 18mm is pretty darn wide. I have a 17mm for my T2i (550D), and that's wide enough that I can get me head and shoulders in the frame at arms length.

If you want to go really wide, Canon also makes a 10-22 EF-S lens, and it's pretty much the defacto-standard when it comes to ultra-wide angle lenses for APS-C cameras.

Why handhold the cam? Set it on a backpack, tree stump, or a rock a few feet away. Or get something like this.

Well I do that right now, but would be like to be able to handhold the camera too.

Yes I am referring to the canon 600D :-) that 10-22 ef-lens could be something I would be interested in :-) Thanks.

What about these lenses, any good? They are a little cheaper than the canon 10-22 EF-S, but are the canon worth the extra?:

- sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 x hsm
- tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 at-x pro
- tamron 10-24mm af di II
- sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6
- samyang 14mm f/2.8

I have the Tokina 11-16 f2.8, it's a great lens and I love it.
