I like it. It looks like the focus might be off just a tad (?), but I like the moon itself in this one. I think these are more interesting and leave a little bit of wonder and mystery than full moon shots. The comp doesn't really work for me though, it's not quite centered, but it's close enough that my eye keeps trying to make sure it is. Just distracts from the image IMO.

Maybe try a different crop? I like it though! Great exposure too!

That is an amazing up close detail of the moon! It is a little blurry though. Im sure it was either camera shake or a little bit of the motion the moon created as it was rising. But still, you have a great lens to get that much distance, unless you cropped ALOT.

a bit of cropping yes, but it was at 300mm, not sure why its a blurry bit. odd it was on a tripod with a remote....

Then its probably motion blur from the moon rising, or setting depending when you shot it. But, if your tripod wasnt sturdy enough then when the shutter opened to make the exposure, then there could have been a slight shake from it opening and shutting. Sometimes too, the shutter opening can shake the camera out of focus slightly giving it a blur.

The reason it still appears to be softly focused is because at 300mm the 70-300 vr is definitely not as sharp as when it performs between 70-250.

If you took the image into photoshop and used the unsharp mask you could correct this image almost entirely

I always shoot in raw. But that is my preference. And I do not use VR. I have not upgraded to a lens that has one yet.

I guess I joined this party a little late, albeit only 8 hrs after the original post. puyjapin, I would suggest that your shot is slightly over-exposed. If you were to go maybe 1/3 stop faster shutter speed, you may be more contrast over the lit part ... or you could just adjust the Curves a little during processing.

Jaszek, I think your moon is way over-processed. Your image looks like the classic example of over-sharpening yielding a moon that looks like it was painted with water colors.

Also, may I just suggest that if folks want to keep re-posting moon shots, you use the moon thread? There's a very long thread here at TPF of moon photos. It's a little annoying to keep seeing the same pictures on every single moon thread that someone starts when they're asking for some advice.

Sorry if I sound cranky, I'm getting over a cold - please ignore the bluntness and take my advice for how I intend it - as advice to those two I critiqued, and general readability on TPF of these threads.
