Nikon D3100 - 50mm af-s 1.8 vs 35mm af-s 1.8

Hello,
very new to photography and really enjoying it. Just bought a nikon D3100, and am wanting a prime lens for portraits and night photography
i would like to know which lens to get out of these 2 lens???
