I bought one when it first came out but the image quality for studio work was subpar so I bought a Phase One system and sold the D4.

Why would anyone buy a d4 as a studio camera, do your research next time the d800 is nikons studio camera, the d4 is their speed-demon.

Do your research buddy. The D4 Has greater ISO and superior for night photography. D800 is a good camera but face it, it's not a workhorse and the files are way to large to process. To be honest if you don't buy a professional lens as the 70-200 vr II, 18-24 vr 2.8, 24-70 vr 2.8 than forget about seeing 36 mega pixels. The d800 is for them who has time on they side, but realistic look at the price lol.

The D4 is designed primarily for sports photography, as much for indoor sports as for nightime outdoor sports.. The D3X is still Nikon's top-of-the-line studio camera.

Nothing you've said there suggests that the D4 is a better studio camera than the D800.

Why would that be ? You dont need super sturdy build in the studio. And the D800E has the controls and the better resolution.

Do not own one, but looked at some of the sensor specs on the D4: the dynamic range, especially the saturation count for pixels, is very high- much higher than the D800. This means not blowing highlights. High-resolution means smaller pixels; low-saturation count; blown highlights.

Dynamic Range is is more important than resolution in many situations. Weddings photo's come to mind. Too bad that 18% grey wasn't the norm instead of white in a wedding dress and black for a Tux.
