Hi folks - requesting any help/suggestions, if anyone can do so. Admittedly, I am a n00b in relation to digital photography, but I went ahead and bought a new d90 over a year ago, and (because of spinal surgery) barely used it. All seemed fine, until recently I decided to really sit down and learn my camera. I immediately noticed that, though the camera takes pics/vids just fine, the top panel lcd display is blank. Did I hit some setting that would turn it off? Is the camera circuitry busted? Of course, my camera is past warranty, but if it's a simple doofus move on my part that put it into this state, I'd hate to have to send (and spend) it to Nikon to have them tell me so. If someone has an idea, I'd appreciate the help. If it has to be fixed, so be it.

Thanks in advance,

-g

Sounds like something is busted. Unless there is some menu setting I am not aware of, there should always be information there (even when the camera is off it lists card data)

Take it to a local camera shop and have someone who is educated with the model look at it for you.

I agree, the camera has a fault. Even when turned off the top LCD should display the number of shots the memory card can hold, like (151) in the lower right corner of the top LCD.

Nikon is not your only option for a repair. There are other independent but Nikon Authorized Repair Stations - Nikon Authorized Repair List

You don't show a location in your profile. KEH in Atlanta also does repairs - KEH.com

Thanks, KmH - yeah, the authorized Nikon repair closest is a two hour drive. Might as well send it to Nikon in Melville, Long Island. I was surprised to see how few authorized repair shops there are. Oh well.
