Noccallula Falls, In All It's Glory

Noccallula Falls named after the a young Cherokee woman, Noccalula, who, according to local legends, plunged to her death after being ordered by her father to marry a man she did not love, is part of a 250 acre park located within the city limits of Gadsden, AL. The falls on Black Creek, plummets 90 feet into a deep ravine. In November of 2011 three kayakers filming an "extreme kayaking" documentary went over the falls in Kayaks, prompting the city to pass an ordinance making it illegal to ride over the falls in ANYTHING. C&C always appreciated.

I went back to try another angle on the falls. Because of the water levels in the stream below, the access trails are all closed. The stream below is deceptively dangerous, lots of boulders the size of a house. When the water level is up, if you slip and fall into it, the current will suck you in and pin you in the blink of an eye. Went to the other rim, but still almost impossible to get a full view without being in the canyon. Still it's a pretty awesome sight, and the sound of all that water is almost deafening.
