Noob pic question

I just have a question that hopefully somebody can answer for me. I notice in a lot of people's pics that there is a semi transparent tag added, like their initials, company name, etc.
How is this done? I use both photobucket and photoshop. Is this a feature of a custom program, or can this be done using the above listed programs? Any help is appreciated.

in photoshop, create a text layer and type whatever you'd like. then slide the opacity on the layers window (don't know exactly what it's called) down to where its transparent or to which ever level of visibility you prefer

It's a watermark. Unless youre selling your work, its pretty pointless as far as I'm concerned. If someone wants to "steal" it, let em. But it really is as simple as just "writing" over the picture in Photoshop or hell even MS Paint.
