Old FD Lens: 120mm-600mm

Recently got a few lenses for free and one of them the old 120mm-600mm. I also had to get a convertor from FD to EOS to get it working on my Canon. I opted for the one with optics so I could zoom to infinity. Although manual this lens proved to be extremely useful even though it doesn't have all the bells and whistles of my 70-200.

The most fascinating part for me is the fact that you are able to get this quality from a lens that is more than 20years old. Now this might not be new for anyone long in photography but for me this experimenting adds value to the whole thing and I also learn a lot of new things.

These two images were taken from about 10meters away through double glazed windows @ 600mm and I had to try and get the best focus i could because the bird feeder is on a line from the tree and it rocks forward and backwards. Apart from that I think the images came out quite well. This is NOT about composition but about more on how much joy i get from these old manual lenses.

Hooray for old lenses!!!! Yes, it is indeed a thrill to put old lenses to use on new cameras! It's part of the fairly newly popular "adapted lenses on _______" trend. I think that trend of adapted lenses is one of the driving forces behind the various mirrorless format cameras for the photo hobbyist crowd. I can see a wee bit of that shot-through-glass-look on these; considering that a glass-elemented adapter AND a double-pane window are thrown into the mix with the old zoom-cannon, these look pretty decent. You've got a LOT of real focal length to play with on that old zoom! Thanks for posting. I hope you continue to explore what this lens can do.
