No longer a newbie, moving up!
I would suggest uploading the pictures to the thread.
go to the picture on flickr
on the right hand side there are three dots that and once you mouse over them read "more actions". click that
click "download/all sizes"
click "all sizes"
right click one of the larger images
click "copy image url"
go back to forum post and there is a "insert image" icon. click it
click "from url" tab in the popup window
paste link and press "ok"
(there might be a better way to do this but this is how i do it)

Or just click the arrow in the box then click the BBCode, select the size then copy and paste it.
