Panasonic DMC-ZS9 vs Canon PowerShot ELPH 300 HS?

Hello,
I was looking around at deals, and found these two cameras at $149. I was impressed by the 16x zoom on the Panasonic. Although the Powershot seems more feature rich. I am not a hotshot, and the mumbo jumbo confuses me. I googled for this model, and could not find any reviews. My gut says that except for the zoom, the Powershot is a much better camera.

What do you guys think?

PS: My use is mostly for family functions, and the occasional picnic and tomfoolery.
