Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f/1.8 Slow Autofocus

Hi; I have a GF3 with the 14mm panny and have been thinking about getting the 20mm panny for environmental portraits, and low-light photography. The one thing I keep reading though that concerns me is that the autofocus is very slow. Actually it sounds like it hasn't always been slow, but some firmware upgrade caused the 20mm AF to be slow. I'm just wondering if anyone knows whether Panasonic will be fixing that at some point, or if there is any way to downgrade the firmware to fix the problem. If this issue is resolved, I will probably buy the lens.

You mean the 20 1.7? It focuses very quickly on the OM-D.

Oh whoops; yes I did mean 20mm f/1.7. Did you buy it recently or a while ago? From what I've found online, it looks like the lenses sold a while ago focused fast, but the new ones are slow because of some firmware update.

Remember the 20mm f/1.7 is an early lens so it isn't as quick nor as quiet as the newer lenses such as the Pan-Leica 25mm f/1.4. Its all relative though.... its pretty fast on both my E-PL1 and OMD E-M5.

A lot of the early reports probably were attributed to testing the lens on the early bodies: G1, E-P1.



14mm and the 20mm have got to be one of the best bargains for any system.... followed closely by the Olympus 45mm.

14, 20, and 45 is what I carry quite often.
