was this photo made digitally or the old fashioned way?

cuz it colours a bit purple at the top

that's what I get when I scan photos too,
so I'm looking for a new scanner.....

The photo was converted to greyscale in photoshop so it is truly B&W and yes it is digital. I shoot completely digital now.
You say you are getting a purple look even after the photo was converted to B&W then may I suggest a monitor calibration. Adobe gamma will definately help with what you see on your screen but not too likely for printing purposes. Different calibration would be needed.
