Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
Hey everyone I am entering my first photography contest this year in the local county fair. I am ready to roll as far as the photographs come, but we have to submit our entry forms today and I want to be sure of some things before I make mistakes. Some of these questions are quite stupid, but I just need to hear opinions from people with experience in this, and not friends who don't know

.

1. There are divisions (b&w film, color film, b*w digital, color digital), my question about this is, if I scan my color film in, is it no longer considered a film picture in the eyes of the judges, like will they assume because its on epson paper that I made a mistake and move my entry to digital?

2. If I hand-tint my black-white prints, I am assuming that they will still be considered b&w prints, I will just have to enter them into "special effects/creative". Is that a correct assumption?

3. If there are silhouettes of humans in front of a nice landscape in which the sun has already completely fallen, would I have to enter this in "family/group" or "travel"? I am wondering because I don't want to enter into "Landscape" if you aren't supposed to have people in it. Also because the sun has already set, it is also no longer considered a sunset?

4. There is a section titled "transportation" this would include any type of transportation such as; cars, trucks, buses, trains, planes. But does that also include, bicycles, skateboards, unicycles e.t.c?

Finally, thanks for any help on any of these questions

, just start your post with which number you are answering so I know right off the bat.

1 - 4... Is there not a number on the entry form you can call to have these questions answered by the people directly involved in the contest?

Its sunday, the office isn't open, and I figured asking fellow photogs with entry experience would be easier than asking all of these questions over the phone. I pretty much already have my mind made up on everything, I just wanted a little clarification and reassurance before I pull the trigger and submit my entries. The only one I really need answered for sure, is the one about color film scanned and digitally printed, and the landscape one. Thanks.

Hopefully, someone from your local county fair is a member here and can answer your questions.

Photo contest rules vary broadly.

1. Yes and no.

2. Maybe.

3. Kinda sort of.

4. Possibly.

That all depends on judges... You really expect us to know who will be the judge and what exactly are the rules of your local competition?

No I don't expect you to know who will be the judge and what the rules are of my local competition, did I say I expected you to know this? All I asked for was opinions on any of the individual questions that I asked regarding categories, because I have the rulebook and I already know the rules, not remarks on how I should have had more foresight or called on the phone. Either way I am just going to go with my gut since this was not very much help.

a good answer would have been something along the lines of, "yeah the film would still be considered film category, because do you really think everybody is going to purchase RA-4 color enlarging paper and use a color enlarger just to make it 100% legit."

Our opinions don't matter at all, because it depends SOLELY on the judges at the contest... Some judges would say YES to all of your questions while other judges would say NO. What would it help if we start a guessing game here? Because it will be only guessing, no real help either way..
And no, you didn't say it explicitly, but you actually did that, as if the rules were constant throughout all competitions ;) No offense meant, just to clarify why we can't actually help you at all.
