Hey everyone, first post here

I'm starting to mess around with lightroom and photoshop to enhance my pictures and made two edits of the same source image. Which was heavily color burned and overexposed (window, as you can see I "invented" the outside as well based on outside pictures of the same place in both versions)... so what edit do you guys prefer (left or right) and any commentary on how to improve the image beyond this point ?

I'm thinking a combo of both. I like the clarity and contrast of the first one, but the lighter shadows and darker sky in the second one.

My preference is for the image on the left, the brighter interior. The right hand image doesn't have much going on to keep me interested. The brighter image though shows details of textures and strong, forceful highlighted lines with a fair amount of contrast between those lows and highs which make the image move in my mind along with big negative space regions which make me curious. The textures and lines of the wood floor are evident in the brighter image along with the "woodiness" and angularity of the cabinet. Opposed to, and because of, those ideas, the open cabinet door suggests there is something I need to investigate in that cabinet. The strong highlights falling on the window sill and the cabinet keep my eye moving as I look for more information about why this photo was taken.

As I've said in previous threads, I like to think of a photograph as a way of capturing an event or a moment in time that needs to be preserved. In the right hand image, I just don't get the event which would have spurred the photographer to want this in their collection. An Edith Piaf Sunday afternoon? If so, I'm not in that mood today. Maybe tomorrow I'll change my mood and my mind. On the other hand, with the brighter image, the lines, textures and broad open space suggest to me there is a story that wants to be told.

The only comment I would make about the left side image is, as an illustrator, I'm not certain the highlights would have fallen exactly as you show them, particularly on the window frame. But, that's fairly niggling and possibly, if the light source was at the right angle, this would be a perfectly acceptable image.

The one on the left is sharper, which I like even though it may be over-sharpened a bit. The one on the right seems to have a lot of light flare around the window.
If this was my task I would have shot two photos, one for the window and one for the room and then layered them together in post-process.
The question is were you going for artistic or architectural?

Yeah I would definitely say a combination of both. I like the idea in the right photo but I like the crispness in the left photo, perhaps combining the two, allowing the desk, floor and bed crisp while having that dreamy look in the right image.
