photo editing help!

i've been wondering for the longest time on how to edit my pictures like this:

i wanna be able to edit my pictures so they have the two black bars on the top and bottom like if someone took a snapshot of a wide screen film. i would greatly appreciate if someone knew a step by step on how to do this. :blushing:

p.s. does anyone know what the term/name for this? >.>;

This, also if you want it widescreen set the fixed ratio to 16 wide and 9 high.

Pfft, photoshop. You could do this in MS Paint

True! Although doesn't Paint compress JPGs to buggery?

Yeah more than likely. Although the new paint in windows 7 gives you more saving options - not that I've played with them, I use photoshop
