Photo request; does it exist?

Hey all. I saw this in one of those "factoid" pages:

In 1883 the explosion of the volcano Krakatoa put so much dust into the earth's atmosphere that sunsets appeared green and the moon appeared blue around the world for almost two years.

I'm not sure this is real, but if it is, that would be one awesome scene. As this inquiry would be too complicated for Google to handle, I was wondering if anyone here knew the location of a .jpg or a .png of this on the web (or has scanned it in). It would make a good wallpaper, that's certain!

well that description does sound a bit off. It would not change the view able color specturm that much to begin with. Plus there really was not any color photos from then around really. The best bet you have is sketchs from that time frame.

It's common for large eruptions to have an impact on sunsets/sunrises. All those particles in the air affect light difraction. I didn't find pictures, but there are plenty of references to recent eruptions causing this effect, though maybe not quite as dramatic as Krakatoa.

Real color photography didn't exist then I do not believe.

As far as I know, it had to be done using a technique like these images.
