Photography contests

aside from the monthly ones here, does anybody have any experience with them? what are they like? what do the judges look for (i am sure this is somewhat linked to the subject or theme of the contest...if it has a theme)? are there any online?

Just always read the fine print. The photographer should always retain copyright. Sometimes the contests are just ways for companies to gather free images.
