Plano Orange

Met this gentlemen yesterday while on a quick exploratory walk, looking for new perspectives on photography and life in general.

"What're you using as bait?"

"Sardines. Going for stripers." he replied, pulling his orange tackle-box closer. A freight train rounding the bend.

"Watch out for those guys. They'll sound their horn, but that's all. They don't stop."

Those were all the words I heard as the carts began to thunder past.

Sweet shot mate. Anglers don't always make the best subject but you've nailed this one. Love the train in the picture.

This is a brilliant shot. I love the composition, DoF, Color, Expression. Everything about it.

Shooting out of your normal genre ... Good stuff. I thought the train was a wall at first ... I like the perspective which made me look hard at the wall in order to see the train. Going B&W will make that train even more wall-like.

PS- This is a real nit ... but that's all there is are nits ... I'd remove the lights above the bridge ... slightly distracting.

Nah views don't come in as heavy sometime, think it's more exposure based on thread placement than content quality!

I like the image, but I think it was your short caption that really made it for me. Without it, I would just be thinking, "cool, a guy next to a train." But with the explanation, I can imagine the exchange between you two, and almost put myself there, feeling the wind from the train as it whooshed by, and the anxiousness of being that close. Yet this guy's demeanor remains statuesque because for him, it's O.H... All in all, cool story! And from a technical stadpoint, it's really well done.

Thank you! That really means a lot to see someone pick up so much from one of my images, you just made my day, and gave me a confidence boost moving forwards as I hope to find another stranger or two this weekend

You don't like the motion blur that suddenly disappears effect? or do you just want that same effect but more pronounced?

I would like it a bit more pronounced. I did not realise first that it was a train, thought it was a fence.

Considering that this was handheld at 1/20 sec with ISO50, and f/22, there really isn't any slower a shutter speed I could get even if I wanted to given the conditions.

I'm completely ok with that. If anything, I like that it took a bit to settle in

Nice shot! Being a die hard angler my self, I really like this one.The train probably would have scared me and I would have had to go home for a change of paints.Looks like a nice place for stripers but I think squid or live Eels is a better choice for bait.
