Playtime at the Beach

Took some pictures of my little girl while we were playing down by the beach the other night. Her face is a bit soft in #2 (and she bounced so I clipped her head), but I love her expression.

She's adorable. #2 is a great photo IMO, despite the clipped head - her expression makes it. A lesson for next time when photographing children, give yourself some room to crop and them some room to move.

You used a very shallow depth of field (no exif data so I can't see what it was) which produced a nice background blur but your focus on her face suffered. I suspect a too slow shutter speed for a bouncing child, too. You'd do better to boost your ISO up so you can use a faster speed.

I agree with Square Peg that she's adorable. These shots will be fine additions for the family album. It looks like she's not camera shy so you have a FANTASTIC model to work on.

Shot settings were 1/200 f2.2 ISO 100 . The sunset went from blindingly bright to non existent exceptionally quickly so I didn't get a chance to adjust my ISO in time. I absolutely could have anticipated the lack of light better.

I've been known to be just as bad.
My last shoot I forgot to check ISO and shot the whole 2 hours at ISO 1600! I was saved by the fact that my camera can handle that and it was a vintage themed shoot so a little grainy was OK. My signature line below says it all!

P.S. Your little one looks so much like one of my granddaughters that they could be sisters!

Adorable pics. I like the shallow DOF, and the soft lighting. Kind of a high camera vantage point, sort of the "parental view of little ones", but not too worrisome in family shots of one's child. Expression trumps everything in these scenarios. I made thousands of similar shots of my kid! Whatever the camera/lens comb was, it created lovely details, and good-quality images...really liike the "look" these have in terms of image quality/DOF/narrow subject frame.
