This is such a simple stupid question I know but I am sitting here just going in circles. For canon and nikon can someone please put the cameras in the right order. The model numbers have me totally confused as to which are the entry level base and up and which are the pro base and up. Does that make sense. I think that for the Nikons it's D40, 60, 80, 90 in the entry level series but where does the d50 and d70 that I keep hearing of come from?

D50 and D70 are older models.

D60 is actually an updated D40X

D50 although between D40 and D60 is a little different as it was an entry level Nikon Dslr that kept the body mounted af motor. It can use the older Nikon AF lenses. The D40 and D60 can only auto focus with newer Nikon AF-I and AF-S lenses only!

The D50 was before the D40!

Basically its really

D40 - D40X - D60

D50 - D70 - D70s - D80 - D90

D100 - D200 - D300

Over simplified but basically 3 groups of entry level to advanced amature DSLR's

Thank you. I am just going bug eyed from all the reading and I think my brain will explode with this all. It's hard to compare prices and features when I can't get the lines straight
